Medical Missions For Children Expands Development Staff
Lisa M. Kim and Paul R. Steed lead grant writing team Paterson, New Jersey, February 11, 2005 - Medical Missions for Children (MMC), a non-profit organization dedicated to elevating the care of catastrophically ill children in underserved U.S. and international communities, today announced the addition of two development staff members, Lisa M. Kim and Paul R. Steed, as program development managers. The two join a growing development office tasked to identify and secure funding opportunities for both Medical Missions for Children and St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.

Medical Missions for Children is dedicated to serving the medical needs of catastrophically ill children in underserved U.S. and international communities. Through the use of its Global Telemedicine & Teaching Network™, a satellite and Internet-based communications platform, MMC facilitates the real-time treatment of remote, critically ill children, broadcasts an extensive program of continuing medical education, and supports dialogue exchange among a global network of medical specialists. The organization's goals are designed to help catastrophically ill children by raising the level of medical expertise in local hospitals in underserved areas through medical education for physicians, nurses, and hospital administrators and through the use of live, two-way diagnostic and treatment consultations between specialists based at major U.S. medical centers and physicians in the local hospital. Typically, MMC facilitates the treatment of 1,500 children each month.
Ms. Kim and Mr. Steed will be responsible for identifying new sources of grant funding, the development of program concepts and implementation strategies, and management and upkeep of proposal support databases.
Ms. Kim brings her extensive background in healthcare fundraising to Medical Missions for Children. Prior to joining the MMC staff, she served as director of development for the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation and as director of constituent strategy for Columbia University Medical Center, where she served as one of the prospect research directors of the medical center's $1 billion Columbia University Health Sciences capital campaign. She brings particular expertise in prospect cultivation and donor relationship building. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from The College of New Jersey.
Mr. Steed is a senior executive who brings to MMC a record of success in building, expanding and managing complex global businesses. He has significant experience in launching new products, managing teams and driving a business unit to exceed targets. He is adept at forging strong collaborative alliances, domestically and abroad, with both private and public sector partners.
Mr. Steed's eclectic background as a soft commodities trader, school teacher and investment banker will have a range of applications within MMC's global teaching and telemedicine initiatives. He is a former Project Director for AmeriCares' 1990 Ethiopia Program, a Red Cross ESL Literacy Volunteer and has been involved as an advisor for several Latin American-focused NGOs. Mr. Steed was named, by Sponsors for Educational Opportunities (NYC) as Mentor of the Year in 1994. He is fluent in Spanish.
Mr. Steed graduated from Georgetown's Foreign Service School where he also captained the men's tennis team.
