Medical Missions For Children Names Theater Executive Director

Becky Angelo Heads New "Giggles" Children's Theater

Becky AngeloPaterson, New Jersey, January 1, 2005 - Medical Missions for Children (MMC), a non-profit organization dedicated to elevating the care of catastrophically ill children in underserved U.S. and international communities, today announced that Becky Angelo will serve as executive director of the organization's new "Giggles" Theater located at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, Paterson, New Jersey.

In partnership with St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, Medical Missions for Children's Giggles Theater, a 70-seat theater also able to accommodate children in wheelchairs and beds, brings local and regional performing artists directly to pediatric patients - through weekly performances and hands-on activities. Music, drama, puppetry, dance, storytellers, and live, interactive "video field trips" break the monotony and bring brightness to these sick children. Programming will soon be aired via the hospital's closed-circuit television system and across MMC's Global Telemedicine & Teaching Network™ to hospitals in underserved countries.

As executive director, Ms. Angelo will oversee daily management of the theater - including identification and scheduling of performing artists, technical production, and fundraising. She joined Medical Missions for Children in August, 2004, serving in the development office as grant writer, and with the theater as technical consultant for construction. She has also played a pivotal role in the development of several community-based health programs in Brazil and Bolivia.

Prior to Medical Missions for Children, Ms. Angelo served as portfolio manager for Visteon Corporation in Detroit, Michigan, and leasing administrator for Friedman Properties of Chicago. Her extensive non-profit experience includes time spent as president of a human rights organization in Pocatello, Idaho and as a member of the Detroit Children's Center Mentoring Task Force. -more-

"Giggles Theater is an incredibly important program for Medical Missions for Children," says Frank Brady, chairman, Medical Missions for Children. "The theater will enable us to provide entertainment and education to very sick children at St. Joseph's on a regular basis. Through our performing artists, we want to help these children forget - at least for a while - that they are in the hospital. And most of all, we wanted to bring them happiness. Becky brings tremendous enthusiasm and knowledge to her position and has played a key role in the theater's early development. We very much look forward to her work on behalf of Giggles Theater."

"The theater is a terrific opportunity for Medical Missions for Children to help meet the emotional and creative needs of hospitalized children," says Angelo. "We have the chance now to bring top-flight performing artists directly into the hospital. I look forward to working with St. Joseph's as we build the theater into an active and important aspect of these children's lives."

Today, Medical Missions for Children's global network encompasses pediatric healthcare facilities in Latin America, Africa, India, and Eastern Europe and the volunteer services of more than 22 tier-one U.S.-based and four international medical institutions.
