The Volunteer Healthcare Worker Program is a training program modeled after the volunteer fireman program in the United States. In this program, citizens in communities without established health infrastructures will be trained in the basics of emergency and preventive medicine.
MMC will work with leaders in the local community to identify individuals who would be interested in training in a basic medical curriculum that includes prevention and wellness, emergency response/first aid, and a basic knowledge of referral methods. MMC will not only train these volunteers in the basics of healthcare, but also familiarize them with their country's healthcare system so that they can in turn educate their friends and neighbors.
The training sessions will be facilitated using a combination of distance learning using MMC's GTTN and hands-on classroom training with our in-country partners. Pilot communities are currently being explored.
