The hospital has been designed to be a Research and Teaching hospital and is expected to be the prototype for future hospitals built in Africa. The newly constructed hospital has 300 beds, three operating rooms, an outpatient clinic, an emergency room and a pharmacy. Researchers will use the hospital's laboratories for biochemistry, hematology, and bacterial and parasite sampling. Specialized departments will offer surgery, obstetrical care, radiology and nuclear medicine. The hospital will have full telemedicine capabilities with the United States and Europe using the MMC Global Telemedicine and Teaching Network.
Soon to be constructed is 50-bed physicians' quarters that will house medical specialists participating in a co-operative teaching and visiting physicians' program.
