Diagnostic Challenges Patrick

Many of the children MMC is asked to help through our Telemedicine Outreach Program are straightforward cases that are easily handled by one of our teams of specialists. However, there are occasions when diagnosing a child's illness is difficult, and finding a specialist who has experience with this type of case is extremely challenging. In collaboration with the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, and the Food and Drug Administration, MMC is launching our Diagnostic Challenges program.

The patient records and images of these difficult cases will be uploaded to a dedicated server at MMC headquarters. A Diagnostic Challenges button will appear on the Web pages of MMC, each of the 26 NIH institutes, the CDC and the FDA, which will link directly to the medical records and images of each difficult case. Combined, these Web sites receive more than two million hits each day. With this initiative, we will be challenging the best and brightest physicians and researches in the country to solve these medial mysteries that have stumped their colleagues.
